Javier Martinez Contreras teaches the metaphysics and history of Medieval philosophy, and ethics in the School of Engineering at the University of Deusto.  He began teaching at the University of Deusto in the School of Modern Philosophy in 2001 and taught several different topics in philosophy. Martinez Contreras studied for one year at the University of Tübingen (Germany) and was "Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiter" of the Institute M.-Dominique Chenu (for investigation in philosophy and theology) in Berlin during the first six months of 2001. He has published a number of articles about aesthetics, Ernst Bloch, music and art in addition to a book, entitled Las huellas de lo oscuro: Estética y filosofía en Ernst Bloch (2004). He has also published translations from English and German into Spanish.
