Leslie R. Lewis lives in San Diego, CA where she juggles writing, teaching, academic work and a tribe of rambunctious girls. She is a doctoral candidate in anthropology at UCSD, a former research fellow at the Institute for Gender and Women's Studies at the American University in Cairo, and a recipient of a National Science Foundation grant for her ethnographic research in Egypt. In addition to this work, she has traveled and undertaken fieldwork in Mexico, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic. She is the author of The Cairo Chronicles (2008), as well as a number of academic articles and book chapters.

[Albanese's] convincingly-argued thesis is that, alongside Protestant Evangelicalism and mainstream Christian denominational forms, metaphysical religion has been a major contributor to both the tenor and content of national religiosity and culture in the U.S.
