Oceanic Planktons May Help Predict Future

Planktons constitute 98% of the ocean world and a group of researchers, after studying these in detail, believes that future oceanic changes would help in knowing which species of these would probably become extinct or migrate. Because these microscopic marine life forms, though very very small, contribute to the generation of oxygen on the planet by some half of the total content, researchers say they are, to a certain extent, the reason why humans are alive.

While these are life-providers for others, their own lives are threatened as changes in climate are realized. Therefore, a marine biologist Chris Bowler, who has also the scientific coordinator of the Tara Oceans expedition, an around-the-world voyage, is aiming at studying planktons as much as possible.
