Though he was primarily renowned as a painter, Leonardo da Vinci was at the same time a sculptor, engineer, inventor, architect, scientist, mathematician, anatomist, botanist, and aviation pioneer. Indeed, no mutually exclusive dichotomy between the arts and sciences existed in Renaissance humanism. Da Vinci's copious journal drawings attest to his extraordinary range of gifts and today provide ample inspiration for designers, artists, scientists and persons of many other occupations.
