Charles Margrave Taylor is a Canadian philosopher who has made significant contributions to political philosophy, philosophy of social science, and the history of philosophy. He is often classified as a communitarian, though he is uncomfortable with the label. He is a practicing Roman Catholic.

Taylor was educated at McGill University and at Balliol College, Oxford. He was Chichele Professor of Social and Political Theory in the University of Oxford and was for many years Professor of Political Science and Philosophy at McGill University in Montreal where he is now professor emeritus. Taylor is now Professor of Law and Philosophy at Northwestern University.

Taylor was a candidate for the New Democratic Party of Mount Royal on three occasions in the 1960s. In 1995, he was made a Companion of the Order of Canada. In 2000, he was made a Grand Officer of the National Order of Quebec. He was awarded the 2007 Templeton Prize. In 2007 he was appointed to the Consultation Commission on Accommodation Practices Related to Cultural Differences, to study the social accommodation of religious and cultural minorities in Quebec.
