Russell Blackford is a writer, philosopher, lawyer, and literary critic based in Melbourne, Australia, where he teaches part-time in the School of Philosophy and Bioethics at Monash University. He is the editor-in-chief of The Journal of Evolution and Technology and a fellow of the Institute for Ethics and Emerging Technologies. His academic specializations include philosophical bioethics and legal/political philosophy. He holds first-class honours degrees in arts (from the University of Newcastle) and law (from the University of Melbourne), and doctorates in English literature (from the University of Newcastle) and philosophy (from Monash University). His philosophical and related work frequently deals with issues involving the relationship between science and society, and with humanity’s future prospects. His work has appeared in a wide range of magazines, academic journals, and other publications, and he is an internationally prominent critic and scholar of the science fiction and fantasy genres and the author of a number of novels and short stories.
