Spiritual Capital Research Program

Introduction

The 100th anniversary of the publication of Max Weber’s enduring work, The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism, provides an opportunity to
reconsider the connections between religion and the economic world. While capitalism has spread far beyond the Protestant countries, the connections
between spiritual developments and economic realities still remain a relatively unexplored aspect of modern society.

The Metanexus Institute is pleased to announce a $3.75 million Spiritual
Capital Research Program, generously supported with funding from the John Templeton Foundation. The aim is to catalyze the emergence of a productive,
vital and interdisciplinary research field of spiritual capital in the social sciences, with particular attention to building connections to economics.

The Spiritual Capital Research Program includes:

  • An invitation-only competition for three, $500,000 research grants awarded to teams of scholars to support interdisciplinary research on spiritual capital.
  • An open competition for ten, $150,000 research grants to support interdisciplinary research on spiritual capital.
