Interested and qualified scholars from a variety of academic disciplines are invited to submit a letter of intent between May 15 and August 1, 2005. Submission will be accepted no later than midnight on August 1, 2005. The letter should clearly state to which topical area you are applying and describe the research project you propose to conduct. It should be not more than three pages in length, single-spaced, with no smaller than a 10-point font. A curriculum vitae summary of not more than three pages for the principal investigator should also be attached. This should include references to previous articles and books written by the investigator. Attention should be paid to the significance and the methodological design of the project. We especially welcome applications that plan to incorporate collaboration across disciplinary boundaries. The Letter of Intent stage is a competition and only the highest rated letters of intent, selected by a panel of judges, will be invited to submit full proposals. We expect to invite approximately 8-10 letters of intent for Area 1, 8-10 letters of intent for Area 2, and 16-20 letters of intent for Area 3 to continue to the submission of the full proposal. We plan to preserve a 4:1 ratio of full proposals received to grant awards available in each area. SUBMISSION OF LETTER OF INTENTTo submit your Letter of Intent, you must complete three steps: Step 1: Register to the Templeton Advanced Research Program. The registration form will require you to list basic information on yourself and the letter of intent. When you click on "Submit", the Web site will acknowledge your submission and it will direct you back to this Web page. It is required for you to register by August 1, 2005 in order for you to have a complete letter of intent application. It is recommended that you complete the registration form well in advance of the August 1, 2005 deadline. Step 2: Attach your letter of intent and cv document(s) in an email message to tarp@metanexus.net and send no later than August 1, 2005. The document(s) should be in either Microsoft Word or PDF format. Once your document(s) has been received, you will receive confirmation via email. Step 3: You must submit 5 hard copies of the letter of intent and cv, postmarked no later than August 1, 2005, to: Templeton Advanced Research Program All applicants will be notified of their status by October 3, 2005.
